“The Great Door” was the first in my series of creating beaded jewelry around Vintage Buttons. I chose this name because the button reminded me so strongly of old heavy oak doors, like those for an old cathedral, but it also had a feel for something oriental. If you click on the image to get a close-up you see why. The color reminded me of that rich red mahogany that an old door before the aging of weather and time. The styling made it look medieval, and something else said, Chinese! It sparked my imagination and I was off and running.
This is the finished piece with the beaded chain & bail. The chain is one of my favs – the ‘Saturn’ chain designed by Gail Deluca (you’ll get fed up of hearing me brag about her, she really is a dear friend and mentor and exceptionally creative!) The bail I made from longish bugle beads. Call it inspiration if you will, they just seamed to fit the bill, and the style. This is another one of those things I did without knowing it was “different”. I have more images, closeups, I’ll get these sorted and uploaded later.
Till next time. Enjoy the process. J
